Island Park, NY - June 7, 2016 - Senator Todd Kaminsky passed a resolution recognizing Dolores Hofman, of Island Park, NY, recently crowned Ms. New York Senior America 2016, and introduced her on the Senate floor yesterday. Ms. Hofman won the annual pageant, which was held at Hofstra University on Sunday, April 3rd, after performing a dance routine and speaking about her professional and civic engagement.

“Dolores is a pioneer for woman in the aviation industry, and has continually served her community with pride,” said Kaminsky.  “Her zest for life is evident in her actions and throughout her personal and professional achievements.”

Ms. Hofman started her aviation career with Pan American World Airway and quickly rose through the ranks, becoming the first woman at Kennedy Airport licensed to operate a forklift.  Her career eventually took her to Evergreen Airlines, where she currently works as a Program Manager, responsible for matching aviation purchasing needs of Kennedy and LaGuardia airports with local businesses.

Throughout her career, she has been heavily involved in civic organizations, including the Island Park Chamber of Commerce, the School Sister of Notre Dame, Animal Lifeline, and has served on the Board of Directors for the Air Cargo Association.  Her commitment and dedication to her community are the reasons why she has so many accolades, including Bishop Wright Air Industry Award for Woman of the Year in 1997, and 2003 Woman of the Year  by Our Lady of the Skies Catholic Chapel.

“I am so honored to receive this most prestigious recognition, and I’d like to extend my sincerest thanks to Senator Kaminsky for taking the time to symbolize my life’s work through this resolution,” said Hofman.  “This deeply warms my heart and is very much appreciated.”

In addition to her duties as Ms. New York Senior America, Hofman currently serves as an Advisor to the Board of the JFK Chamber of Commerce and is Vice President of the JFK Rotary.  Hofman lives in Island Park with her high school sweetheart and husband of 48 years, Edward.
