Coram, NY - June 5, 2017 - A Coram man arrested last month for ramming three Suffolk Police cars when he tried to flee the scene of a drug transaction in a Centereach parking lot has been indicted by a grand jury and will be arraigned tomorrow (6/8) in Riverhead, Suffolk County District Attorney Thomas Spota said.

On the afternoon of May 23 when detectives approached Paul Sommer’s vehicle in a parking lot on Middle Country Road, Sommer rammed a police vehicle and struck a detective, and then collided with two more police cars at the intersection of Hawkins Avenue and Nicholls Road where he was finally taken into custody, DA Spota said.

The detective received treatment for non-life-threatening injuries.

Arrested on assault, reckless endangerment and drug possession and sale charges, Sommer, 22, is incarcerated in the county jail in lieu of $75,000 cash bail.

Judge John Toomey (third floor of the courthouse) will unseal the indictment Thursday morning. The court calendar begins at 9:30 am.

A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
