Freeport, NY - June 6, 2018 - Senator John Brooks announced that the Freeport School District Smart Schools Investment Plan (SSIP) application was approved on June 4, 2018. The school district can now begin to replace four temporary classroom units, part of the Smart Schools Bond Act to support investment in education infrastructure, and will be reimbursed by the State. They were awarded $2,600,000 in funding for this project.

“Our children deserve a world-class education, and part of that means ensuring our schools have access to modern teaching tools and infrastructure,” said Senator John Brooks. “For our students to compete in the global economy, we need to invest in them and support our public education system. I am proud to help the Freeport School District move forward on their Smart Schools Investment Plan, and I look forward to continuing to ensure Long Island schools receive the funding and state assistance they deserve.”

The $2,600,000 in funding will allow the Freeport School District to convert four existing portable learning spaces into four permanent classrooms. These 21st century learning spaces will provide Freeport students with the environment they need to succeed in school, while eliminating any burden of building costs that would otherwise be imposed on Freeport School District residents.
