House Cleaner Arrested For Stealing Jewelry from Two Garden City Clients, Cops Say

Garden City, NY - June 5, 2017 - Garden City Police Department detectives report the arrest of a Hempstead woman for incidents that occurred in Garden City.
 
According to detectives, Bernabe Mejia, 45, who is a self-employed house cleaner, was found to have taken numerous items of jewelry from at least two homes in Garden City where she was employed by the homeowners.
 
Mejia is charged with Criminal Possession of Stolen Property 4th Degree and Criminal Possession of Stolen Property 5th Degree. She will be arraigned in First District Court, Hempstead on 6/4/2017.
 
Detectives request anyone who employed Mejia and believe they may have been the victim of a similar theft to call Garden City detectives at (516) 465-4150.
 
A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
