NCPD: Man Turns Himself in After Fleeing Scene of Elmont Hit-And-Run Accident
Elmont, NY - June 4, 2018 - The Fifth Squad reports the Arrest of a Queens man for Leaving the Scene of an Accident, involving a pedestrian, that occurred on Saturday, June 2, 2018 at 1:19 p.m. in Elmont.
According to detectives, a 1999 Volkswagen was traveling north bound on Elmont Rd. at 116th Rd. when it struck a pedestrian, a 52 year old male. The driver of the vehicle, defendant Jonathan Ricks, 28, fled the scene of the accident without attempting to stop.
On June 2, at 2:20 p.m., Ricks turned himself into police and was arrested without incident. Further investigation revealed that the defendant was operating the vehicle with a suspended license and had an active arrest warrant.
The victim was transported to a local hospital with head and leg injuries.
Ricks is charged with Leaving the Scene of an Accident, Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle 2nd degree and Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle 3rd degree. He will be arraigned on Sunday, June 03, 2018 at First District Court, Hempstead.
