Bay Shore Hit and Run Suspect Pleads Not Guilty
Bay Shore, NY - June 3, 2014 - An Islip Terrace man who allegedly fled the scene after running down a teenage pedestrian in Bay Shore pleaded not guilty at his arraignment today on a five count indictment, Suffolk County District Attorney Thomas Spota said.
On May 15th the victim, 18-year old James Vaughn of Bay Shore, was crossing Fifth Avenue when he was struck by a pickup truck driven by Alfred Buckman.
Vaughan suffered a serious head injury and broken bones.
Buckman, 51, of 14 Lorigan Street, Bay Shore, pleaded not guilty to leaving the scene of an incident without reporting, aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, failure to stop at a red light and operating an unregistered motor vehicle.
The defendant is incarcerated in lieu of $75,000 bond.
