Robert C. Goldsmith Named ACLD Executive Director

Bethpage, New York - June 3, 2014 - The Board of Trustees of Adults and Children with Learning and Developmental Disabilities, Inc. (ACLD) today announced that Robert C. Goldsmith will assume the position of Executive Director effective June 2, 2014.

As Executive Director, Mr. Goldsmith will oversee the entire ACLD organization to provide strategic direction, innovative leadership, program integrity, and identification of emerging opportunities.  He succeeds Aaron Liebowitz, who will officially retire at the end of this year after more than 35 years of dedicated service. Mr. Liebowitz will remain with ACLD during this transition as Executive Director Emeritus.

Founded in 1957, ACLD is Long Island’s fourth largest not-for-profit agency*. The organization  serves more than 3,000 individuals with autism and developmental disabilities, and their families, by increasing their independence and improving the quality of their lives. 

Mr. Goldsmith possesses a lifelong passion for working with the developmentally disabled.  He served as the Associate Executive Director at AHRC Nassau and as the former Chief Operating

Officer/Associate Executive Director of AHRC NYC Chapter.  His 30-year career in the non-profit and business sectors includes healthcare management, education, and finance experience. He has developed solutions to complex financial and service related challenges, and his background as a successful business owner gives him a unique perspective for managing teams, operations and budgets.

I was attracted to ACLD because of its outstanding reputation and celebrated history,” Mr. Goldsmith     stated.  “The Board and the staff are committed to the highest quality of service for people with      developmental disabilities and their families. My goal is to build on ACLD’s foundation of success  and continue the mission of providing an enviable life for the individuals whom they serve.”

Founded in 1957, the not-for-profit organization has served the needs of over 3,000 children, teens and adults with autism and developmental disabilities, and their families. ACLD’s mission is to provide opportunities for individuals with autism and developmental disabilities to pursue enviable lives, increase their independence and improve the quality of their lives in the community. ACLD employs over 1,100 people and operates 74 different program sites across Nassau and Suffolk counties.

Service programs include early childhood services, after school programs, respite programs, day habilitation, residential alternatives, vocational training and job placement, recreation programs, family support services, Medicaid service coordination, and medical and behavioral health services.
