Miller Place, NY - June 2, 2017 - Suffolk County Legislator Sarah Anker is proud to support the Miller Place Booster Club at the 21st Annual Joe Keany Memorial Run this Sunday, June 4th. The event will start at the North Country Road Middle School (191 N. Country Rd, Miller Place), and include a one-mile family fun run at 8:15 AM and a 5K run at 9:00 AM. Runners will race along the USTAF certified course starting at the North Country Road Middle School, through the Miller Place historic district, down past Mount Sinai Harbor, and up the steep hill on Cedar Drive. The event will also include raffle prizes, entertainment, food, and awards for both races.

“I encourage all community members to join me this Sunday to support the Miller Place Booster Club at the annual Joe Keany Run,” said Legislator Anker. “This is a great family event that attracts over 400 runners each year and helps to support Miller Place athletic programs.”

The 21st Annual Joe Keany Memorial Run is held in honor of Joe Keany, a 1986 graduate of Miller Pace who distinguished himself in both cross country and track. Joe overcame many health obstacles to pursue his passion of running. He became captain and received both All County and All Conference honors. Joe is most importantly remembered for his acts of kindness, his compassion, and his willingness to help others. He passed away suddenly at the age of 28 from a brain aneurysm. Each year, the Miller Place community gathers for the annual race in the spirit of Joe Keany. For more information about the event, please visit www.millerplaceboosterclub.org/fundraisers.
