Elderly Men Allegedly Scammed by East Rockaway Man
Robert Cohan, 26 of East Rockaway, pleaded not guilty to charges of scamming two elderly twins out of thousands of dollars.

According to a report from News 12, Cohan was hired by the 86-year-old twins to repair their driveway in Seaford. Cohan was allegedly given $14,000 by the twin brothers to start the project.

When the 89-year-old twins decided to cancel the project, Cohan told them that they would have to pay $200,000 in various fees including restocking and processing. The twins wound up paying Cohan, who is an unlicensed contractor, the $200,000.

Cohan is now facing several charges, including scheme to defraud, not having the required contractor's license and grand larceny. Cohan does not have a prior criminal record, and his attorney said that he is innocent.

Cohan pleaded not guilty on Saturday, and is due back in court on June 4.

Shooting Near Prospect Park
Police say that three men were shot near Prospect Park in Brooklyn on Sunday afternoon. According to a report from NBC News, shots were also fired at police responding to the scene. Officials said that no officers were injured, and police did not return fire.

The shooting occurred around 3:30 p.m. near Bedford Avenue and Lenox Road in Prospect Lefferts Gardens, and left three men seriously wounded. The victims were taken to Kings County Hospital, and are in stable condition.

One witness said he saw two female police officers approaching the scene and then heard six gun shots.

Police did not make any arrests and were later searching the neighborhood for possible shooters. It is unclear how many gunmen there were.
