SCPD Reports Shirley Man Arrested for DWI Following Hit-and-Run Crash

Shirley, NY – June 1, 2017 – Suffolk County Police have arrested a man for driving while intoxicated after he fled the scene of a motor vehicle crash in Shirley on Wednesday, May 31, 2017 at 9:09 a.m.
 
Sean Williams was driving a 2013 Hyundai Sonata northbound on Carnation Drive at the intersection of Moriches Middle Island Road at 9:09 a.m. when he ran a red light and struck a 2014 Volkswagen. The Volkswagen then struck a pole. Williams fled on foot and was tracked down by a Canine Section officer, who found him in a nearby shed.
 
Williams, 37, of Shirley, was arrested and charged with Driving While Intoxicated, Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle 1st Degree, Operating a Motor Vehicle Without an Interlock Device, and Leaving the Scene of an Accident. 
 
The male driver of the Volkswagon and his female passenger sustained minor injuries and were transported to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center in East Patchogue.
 
The Hyundai was impounded.  Williams was held at the Seventh Precinct overnight for arraignment at First District Court in Central Islip.
 
A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
