SCPD Investigating Motor Vehicle Crash in Middle Island That Killed Driver

Update - May 29, 2015 - Timothy Melia, 30, of Bay Shore, has been identified as the driver who was killed in a single-car crash on East Bartlett Road in Middle Island on May 28. The investigation is continuing.

Middle Island, NY - May 28, 2015 - Suffolk County Police Seventh Squad detectives are investigating a motor vehicle crash that killed a motorist in Middle Island today.

A man was driving a 2004 Hyundai Santa Fe, apparently eastbound on E. Bartlett Road, when he failed to negotiate a turn in the road. The vehicle struck a utility support pole and went off the roadway into a wooded marshy area. The vehicle flipped over onto its side. The driver was pronounced dead by a physician assistant from the Office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner.

The identity of the driver is being withheld pending notification of family.

The vehicle was impounded for a safety check and the investigation is continuing. Anyone with information on the crash is asked to call Seventh Squad detectives at 631-852-8752.
