SCPD: Suicidal Woman Rescued by Marine Bureau Officers After Jumping Off Bridge
West Islip, NY - May 28, 2018 - Suffolk County Police rescued a suicidal woman who jumped from the bridge portion of the Robert Moses Causeway on Sunday, May 27, 2018.
Suffolk County Marine Bureau officers aboard Marine Xray responded to a report of a woman who jumped into the water from the west side of the bridge portion of the Robert Moses Causeway at 4 a.m. Officer Joseph Riviello drove the boat underneath the bridge and officers used a spotlight to locate the woman, who was holding onto a pylon in the water. Officers John Sheehan and William Houst were able to pull her safely into the boat and bring her back to shore.
The woman, 18, was transported by West Islip rescue to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip for evaluation.
