Shirley, NY - May 28, 2015 - On Friday, May 15, the Mastics-Moriches-Shirley Community Library showcased teen artwork in the semi-annual art show. Approximately 100 children, teens and adults viewed pieces created during Community Library programs such as the Illustrator’s Workshop, Art Club, Scrapbooking, and for the first time, the Teen 3D Print Club. Each of these programs is offered to teens weekly, except for 3D Print Club, which is held every other week.

The Illustrator's Workshop takes place every Friday from 4:00-5:00 p.m. Teens are free to draw anything they would like, under the instruction of teen librarian/artist Tom Casper. On the second Friday of each month, the art education company “Imagine That” brings a guest artist who provides an in-depth lesson for the teens.

Art Club occurs every Wednesday from 6:00-8:00 p.m. In this program, teens explore various art mediums and styles under the instruction of Library Assistant Hillary Maldonado.

Scrapbooking is offered every Monday from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Teens can get creative with scrapbooking under the instruction of Crystal Lebron.

The Teen 3D Print Club happens every other Monday from 6:00 – 7:30 p.m. In this club, teens learn how to design 3D schematics on both mobile devices and laptops, using a variety of software. They then print their designs in plastic filament, and share them online to Thingiverse, a 3D design community. The instruction for this class is provided by the Head of the library's Digital Services Department, Nick Tanzi.
