LIRR Weekend Travel Alert: Hempstead Branch
Long Island, NY - May 27, 2015 - Buses replace westbound trains at Queens Village and Hollis beginning at 10:30 PM on Friday, May 29 through 3:30 AM on Monday, June 1 as the LIRR suspends service to allow workers to waterproof the 211th St. Bridge near Jamaica Ave. in Queens. Service will be restored in time for Monday’s rush hour. A second weekend outage will be necessary to complete the project. That work is currently scheduled to begin late Friday, June 26 and finish up early Monday, June 29.
Westbound
Hempstead Branch customers traveling westbound will transfer at Queens Village for buses to Jamaica Station where they can resume their journey west by train. Buses will depart up to 20 minutes later than normal train times and customers should plan for up to 20 minutes of additional travel time. Customers who normally travel from Queens Village and Hollis will instead board buses that will depart 20 minutes later than regular train times and can expect up to 47 minutes of additional travel time. Customers traveling to Queens Village and Hollis will transfer to buses at Bellerose Station for the trip to Queens Village and Hollis.
Eastbound service will not be affected.
