Written by Chris Boyle  |  24. May 2021

The Alzheimer's Foundation of America (AFA) announced the appointments of Nathan Halegua (Old Westbury, NY) and Lee Brodsky (Port Washington, NY) to its Board of Directors. The two Long Islanders bring backgrounds in business leadership and personal experience with Alzheimer’s disease to their new roles.

"Nathan Halegua and Lee Brodsky are both successful businessmen with experience in leading organizations, but equally as important, they understand the impact that Alzheimer’s disease has on families because they both had loved ones who lived with Alzheimer’s,” said Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr., AFA's president and CEO.  “That combination of professional and personal experience, together with their passion for helping others, will benefit AFA as we continue to find new ways to serve families affected by Alzheimer’s disease. We congratulate Nathan and Lee on their appointments and welcome them to the board.”

Nathan Halegua said, “I am looking forward to working with the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America organization and making progress towards a cure.”

“I am proud to continue the Brodsky legacy of steadfast support of Alzheimer’s patients and their families.  My father has given tirelessly to AFA over the years, and I look forward to helping him carry that torch into the future,” said Lee Brodsky.  “Philanthropy and giving back is one of our core values and my appointment will ensure that AFA will continue to be a beneficiary of those values for future generations.”

Nathan Halegua, together with his family, has been a passionate Alzheimer’s advocate for many years—his mother, Oro Halegua, lived with Alzheimer’s disease for more than five years. Mr. Halegua has more than 40 years of experience in New York City real estate as principal owner of Jonis Realty, a real estate acquisition and development firm, and Citi-Urban Management, a real estate management company. He also has extensive experience in the acquisition, management, financing, leasing and supervision of residential and commercial real estate.  Mr. Halegua is a graduate of Queens College, where he also sits on the Board of Jewish Studies and has a master’s degree from Michigan State University.

Lee Brodsky is the Chief Executive Officer of BEB Capital, a privately held, multifaceted real estate company, where he oversees the organization’s overall direction and spearheads strategic planning for the business, including the execution and management of key partnerships. Since its formation in 2013, Mr. Brodsky has led BEB to become an institutional-grade owner and operator of industrial assets along the East Coast. Mr. Brodsky earned a Bachelor of Business Administration from the Goizueta Business School at Emory University. He has personal ties to Alzheimer’s disease—his grandmother, Anne, lived with Alzheimer’s for more than a decade.
