SCPD: Drunk Driver Falls Asleep in McDonald's Drive-Thru with 3 and 4 Year-Old Sons in Vehicle

Farmingville, NY - May 21, 2018 - Suffolk County Police arrested a Center Moriches man for Leandra’s Law in Farmingville on Sunday, May 20, 2018.
 
Miguel Alvarado-Gonzales was operating a 2005 Jeep Cherokee in the drive-through lane of McDonald’s, located at 2301 North Ocean Ave, with his 3 and 4-year-old sons in the vehicle, when he fell asleep at the wheel. An employee of McDonald’s called 911 to report the situation.
 
When Sixth Precinct officers arrived, they saw Alvarado-Gonzales driving out of the parking lot, heading north on North Ocean Avenue. The officers pulled the Cherokee over in the parking lot of Stop & Shop Gas Station, located at 3003 North Ocean Avenue, and arrested Alvarado-Gonzales.
 
Alvarado-Gonzales, 29, of Center Moriches was charged with Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated with a Child Passenger 15 Years or Younger (Leandra’s Law) and 2 counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child.
 
Alvarado-Gonzales is being held overnight at the Sixth Precinct and is scheduled to be arraigned today at First District Court in Central Islip.
 
The children were released into the custody of their mother.
 
A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
