Albany, NY - May 21, 2013 - Governor Andrew M. Cuomo today announced that new information has been added to the state’s comprehensive new data transparency website that will enable New Yorkers to easily find farmers’ markets, wineries, breweries, and distilleries near their homes.

“With summer right around the corner, I encourage New Yorkers to pick up fresh produce at a local farmers’ market, raise their glasses at a local brewery, or visit a neighborhood vineyard, and support our state’s growing agriculture, tourism, and beverage industries,” Governor Cuomo said. “The state now offers a wide breadth of information on open.ny.gov on local farmers’ markets, wineries, breweries, and distilleries, helping New Yorkers, tourism officials, and local governments to bring new customers to our state’s small businesses.”

In March, the Governor launched open.ny.gov to provide - for the first time - user-friendly, one-stop access to data from New York State agencies, localities, and the federal government. The website, features economic development, health, recreation, and public services information.

“More and more, consumers are demanding fresh, locally produced products,” Oyster Bay Brewing Company owner Gabe Haim said. “This new interactive map will help craft breweries like ours meet that demand, by not only providing directions directly to our new facility, but also where they can sample and purchase our products at farmers’ markets across the state.”

“From enjoying all the craft brews from members in our New York City Brewers Guild, to visiting our new production facility for Shmaltz Brewing just north of Albany, to sampling and purchasing product at a farmers' markets across the state, the growing wave of enthusiasts looking for better beer from passionate small businesses should explore Open.NY.Gov and come raise a glass with us,” Shmaltz Brewing Company and president of the NYC Brewers Guild Jeremy Cowan said.

The Farmers’ Market Dataset includes information detailing the hours of operation and location of community farmers markets as well as the name and phone number of the market manager.

The Wineries, Breweries, and Distilleries database includes information detailing the hours of operation, and location of wineries, breweries, and distilleries, as well as relevant contact information.

To confirm the hours and location before traveling, contact the local market or distillery.
