Garden City, NY - May 20, 2016 - The Nassau County Police Department (NCPD) Foundation is sponsoring a car seat drive for 152 families in the Roosevelt community thanks to a donation of car seats by the Toys of Hope Children's Charity.

Members of the NCPD, NCPD Explorers and Police, Detective and Sergeants Unions will be cooperating with Nassau County’s Traffic Safety Center to install the car seats for these families.

County Executive Edward P. Mangano stated, "We must do all we can to protect our children when on the road. Together with the Nassau County Police Foundation and Toys of Hope Children's Charity, Nassau County and its employees are assisting disadvantaged families by providing free car seats to better protect children."

The drive will run from 9:30am to 3:00pm on Sunday, May 22, 2016 at the Nassau County Traffic Safety Center, located at 170 Cantiague Rock Road, Hicksville, NY 11801. Families in Roosevelt were notified by the Nassau County Department of Social Services about their ability to make an appointment to come and obtain their car seat, which will be installed by one of the County’s trained car seat installers.

“Thanks to this great donation from the Toys of Hope Children's Charity we are able to give the NCPD the ability to properly install a child’s car seat and potentially save their life,” said Eric Blumencranz, Chairman of the NCPD Foundation. “By providing the NCPD with opportunities to engage the communities they police, we are hoping they build relationships that will be imperative to continuing to keep Nassau County’s residents safe.”

National Grid also provided financial support to the NCPD Foundation for this community initiative, which will continue as long as families who have been notified call the Nassau County Traffic Safety Center to make an appointment to come and get their car seat installed.
