Pedestrian Killed in Copiague Motor Vehicle Crash, Officials Say

Copiague, NY - May 19, 2017 - Suffolk County Police First Squad detectives are investigating a motor vehicle crash that killed a pedestrian in Copiague on Thursday, May 18, 2017 at approximately 9:15 p.m.
 
Luis Guzman Hernandez was driving a 2005 Toyota Camry west on Sunrise Highway when he struck Constantino Tejada, 52, of Copiague at the intersection of Bethpage Road. Tejada, who was pushing a shopping cart, was in the roadway when the crash occurred at approximately 9:15 p.m. 
 
Constantino Tejada was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip where he was pronounced dead.
 
Guzman Hernandez, 18, of Copiague, was not injured and received a summons for violation of learner’s permit restriction.
 
The investigation is continuing and the Toyota was impounded for a safety check.
