Mineola, NY - May 19, 2014 - Nassau County District Attorney Kathleen Rice announced that the former office manager of a Manhasset medical practice paid back $231,000 that she stole from her employer after pleading guilty last December.

Hillary Hudesman, 55, of Woodbury, was sentenced today by Nassau County Court Judge Christopher Quinn to five years probation.Hudesman has paid full restitution of $230,919.32 to her former employer, and spent 60 days in jail prior to today’s sentencing. She pleaded guilty in December 2013 to Grand Larceny in the 2nd Degree (a C felony).

“This defendant abused her employer’s trust every single time she swiped her credit card to pay for personal items using company funds,” DA Rice said. “My office will continue our efforts to bring dishonest employees to justice, and to make sure that every penny stolen is returned.”

From January 2008 to February 2012, Hudesman stole a total of $230,919.32 from the Manhasset medical practice where she worked by directing that checks be drawn to pay for personal expenses on her own credit cards without authorization from her employer. As office manager, Hudesman’s duties included requesting that the practice’s checks be cut to pay for business expenses that were paid by using her personal credit card – there being no office credit cards.

During this four-year period, Hudesman spent this money on a wide variety of personal expenses, including purchases from department stores, supermarkets, pharmacies, dry cleaners and nail salons.

The scam was discovered by Hudesman’s employer and referred to DA Rice’s office for investigation. Hudesman was arrested by DA investigators in March 2013.

Assistant District Attorney Peter Mancuso of DA Rice’s Government and Consumer Frauds Bureau is prosecuting the case. Hudesman is represented by Dennis Lemke, Esq.
