Nassau County, NY - May 18, 2016 - In collaboration with federal, state and county agencies, non-profit organizations, and design and construction firms, the Nassau County Office of the County Executive is pleased to provide the residents and businesses across Long Island with a unique educational opportunity.

The County Executive’s office and the Nassau County Office of Housing is facilitating a series of workshops focusing on Sandy Storm recovery, flood insurance, building permits, accessibility and home elevation.

Attendees will learn how to resolve the issues between accessibility and elevation. We are bringing together design professionals and home elevation specialists to explain the primary obstacles that hinder accessibility when a home is elevated. They will address design solutions, policies, and equipment that can be used to make your home both resilient and accessible. They will discuss issues ranging from the difference between elevators, lifts, and ramps to medical documentation needed in order to secure funding with New York Rising, how to negotiate zoning regulations, and how to plan for reasonable accommodations in the future.

In addition to the accessibility and elevation presentations, Catholic Charities will present mental health strategies and resources, while budget and paperwork control, and a discussion on Consumer Affairs issues; such as licensing and fraud will be presented by Mr. Raab.

The upcoming forum, hosted by the Nassau County Storm Recovery Liaison, Michael Raab, in collaboration with the Assemblyman Brian Curran and Hempstead Supervisor Anthony Santino, will be held on May 19, 2016 at the Oceanside Middle School from 6:00-9:00.
