Congressman Suozzi Hosts Biotech Roundtable to Promote Growth of the "495 Research Corridor on High-Tech Island.”
Huntington, NY - May 16, 2018 - On Monday, May 14, Congressman Tom Suozzi (D – Long Island, Queens) hosted the Biotech and Life Sciences Roundtable to promote the growth of the “495 Research Corridor on High-Tech Island”. The event was held at the Cold Spring Harbor Library.
“There is no question about it, Long Island has the talent; excellent high schools and universities. We are home to some of the nation’s most innovative biotech and life science businesses and research centers in the country. What we need to do now is to collaborate with the private sector to build and grow the ‘495 Research Corridor on High-Tech Island’,” said Suozzi.
Panelists at the Roundtable included principals and representatives from the Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory, Brookhaven National Laboratories, the Feinstein Institute for Medical Research, Stony Brook University, Hofstra University, and the Northwell Health system. The participants represented entrepreneurs, engineers, researchers, start-ups, and businesses that are up and running, and making money.
The unanimous take-aways from the Roundtable are the need to market and promote the “495 Research Corridor” and attract talented business development professionals and serial entrepreneur’s to Long Island who will help, nurture developing these businesses being spun out of our premier research institutions and who will in turn bring in venture capital to help commercialize these businesses.
Congressman Suozzi will be hosting a follow-up Roundtable in September.
