Israel Defense Forces (IDF) Soldiers Pay Special Visit to Long Island Community

Written by Long Island News & PR  |  16. May 2014

West Hempstead, NY -May 15, 2014 -  Thanks to the Long Island Chapter of Friends of the Israel Defense Forces (FIDF), members of the Long Island Jewish community recently had the opportunity to meet two Israeli Army officers, and hear about their powerful stories and service experiences.

Captain I., an Israeli Air Force fighter jet pilot, and Captain Eitan, a cadet in the IDF’s Tactical Command College who served in Operation Cast Lead and Operation Pillar of Defense, described their IDF experiences and how FIDF programs provide them with crucial support. Their dramatic stories set the stage for the FIDF Five Towns and Greater South Shore’s upcoming gala, expected to gather 400 Long Island supporters of FIDF.

“Our community are strong supporters of the state of Israel, but often it is easy to forget the soldiers who work tirelessly to keep it safe on our behalf.  I had the pleasure and honor of hosting Captain Eitan at my home for Shabbat. An intelligent and compassionate young officer, he inspired everyone in our shul, encouraging them to remember the soldiers, pray for their safety and to help them through FIDF in any way that we can,” said FIDF supporter Gabriel Boxer.

Captain I. spoke in West Hempstead, at Young Israel of West Hempstead and at Eitz Chaim of Dogwood. Captain Eitan spoke at Young Israel of Hewlett, Anshe Chesed, Congregations Sons of Israel and Irving Place Minyan.

FIDF supporters from across the Five Towns and Greater South Shore area will gather for their Third Annual Community Event in Cedarhurst on May 28. Funds raised at the event, which will take place at the Sephardic Temple, will go toward FIDF wellbeing and educational programs for the brave men and women of the IDF. Benjamin Brafman, a criminal defense attorney and founder of Brafman and Associates, will serve as the master of ceremonies for the third year in a row.
