Suffolk County, NY - May 15, 2018 - The Suffolk County Police Department will hold its annual awards ceremony to honor the outstanding work of sworn and civilian members of the department, as well as members of the community who acted bravely. Among those honored will be Chief of Detectives Gerard Gigante who will receive the Daniel P. Guido Leadership Award in recognition of his tireless dedication to the job for more than 30 years, holding almost every title possible in the patrol and detective divisions.

Canine Section Police Officer Ralph Fuellbier will receive the Commissioner’s Career Achievement Award after more than 30 years of service to the department, including 23 in the Canine Section, where he has helped train countless canine/officer teams.

Highway Patrol Officer James Weik will receive the Edwin Hernandez Traffic Safety Enforcement Award less than a year and a half after he was injured in an on-duty motor vehicle crash that kept him off the road for 112 days. In addition to his efforts on the highways, Officer Weik is also an instructor at the Traffic and Parking Violations Agency’s Diversion Program.

Civilian Edmond Quinones will also be recognized for his efforts in rescuing a man from a burning car in July 2017.
