Hempstead Man Under Arrest After Getting into Accident With Vehicle He Allegedly Stole, Authorities Say
Uniondale, NY - May 15, 2017 - First Squad detectives report the arrest of a Hempstead man for Criminal Possession of Stolen Property that occurred on Sunday, May 14, 2017 at 5:59 P.M. in Uniondale.
According to detectives, First Precinct officers responded to assist Freeport Police that were following a stolen 2009 Subaru Forester and had become involved in an accident with a 2012 Toyota on Uniondale Avenue and Cedar Street. The operator, Laron Watts, 17, did exit the vehicle and fled scene, after a short foot pursuit Watts was apprehended in a rear yard on Bedford Avenue. The 33 year old male operator of the Toyota was transported to a local hospital with a non-life threatening injury.
Watts is being charged with Criminal Possession of Stolen Property 3rd degree, Criminal Mischief 3rd degree, Unlawful Fleeing a Police Officer 3rd Degree and Leaving the Scene of an Incident and multiple Vehicle and Traffic violations. He will be arraigned on Monday, May 15, 2017 at First District Court in Hempstead.
