To say that Hurricane Sandy devastated much of the East Coast when it hit in late October is an understatement. More than six months later people are still affected by the super storm and the damage it caused is in the billions of dollars.

It’s because of this, FEMA, the Federal Emergency Management Agency, is going to be holding Hurricane Sandy home rebuilding workshops at a Lowes and two different Home Depots in Suffolk County from May 16 to the 21. The FEMA specialists are there for those still reeling from Hurricane Sandy who need advice on cleanup and how to better prepare you for future unavoidable forces of nature.

The two Home Depot locations are 1881 Sunrise Highway in Bay Shore, and 5025 Jericho Turnpike in Commack. The Lowes is located on 2796 Route 112 in Medford.

From May 16 to the 18 the workshop hours will be from 7:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. On May 19 the workshops will be from 8:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. On May 20 the hours will be 7:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. On the final day, May 21, the workshops hours will be held 7:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

More than half a year after Sandy hit our shores; 39,000 New Jersey families are still away from their homes. 250 families in New York live out of hotel rooms and parts of the city of Long Beach still look like a scrap metal yard from all the damage. Long Beach officials are hopeful the new boardwalk will be up and running by the summer so Long Islanders could enjoy concerts, arts festivals, music festivals, and of course the beaches. The recovery process has been slow but it’s getting there.  These workshops will shed some light on any questions people suffering might still have.
