A surfer almost drowned on Sunday evening at Lido Beach. The surfer was reportedly having trouble breathing while out on the waves, making it difficult for him to get to safety. Luckily, a fellow surfer, a doctor, noticed and pulled the victim to shore.

 

Joe Daly, a Town of Hempstead EMT, arrived on the scene along with the Point Lookout-Lido Fire Department and Nassau County Police Department around 7:30pm to find the surfer semi-conscious. According to a report by the Town, the victim was immediately placed on oxygen and life-saving care initiated by the first responders.

 

Thanks to the team’s efforts, the surfer regained full consciousness, the Town reported in a statement. He was transported by ambulance to a local hospital.

 

“The leadership of TOH EMS and the teamwork working alongside the PLLFD Ambulance helped bring a positive outcome for this patient in distress along the shore,” said Town of Hempstead Supervisor Don Clavin.
