Nassau Police Resuscitate Three Cats Rescued from North Merrick House Fire
North Merrick, NY - May 10, 2017 - The Public Information Office reports the details of a Fire that occurred in North Merrick on Wednesday, May 10, 2017 at 9:46 am.
According to police, the North Merrick Fire Department and First Precinct Police responded to a call for a house fire on Powell Avenue in North Merrick. The house was fully engulfed in flames upon their arrival. One male resident and two female residents were able to exit out of the home to safety.
There were no injuries reported to the residents. The fire damage was substantial.
The North Merrick Fire Department gave three cats to the First Precinct Police who were able to resuscitate them by administering oxygen and chest compressions by using their thumbs on the cats chest. A neighbor went into the house and was able to rescue two dogs as well. Nearby residences were also evacuated for safety.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
