Nassau County Executive Laura Curran announced an upcoming Student Vaccination Initiative in partnership with Northwell Health -- a four-day High School vaccination event in the Nassau Community College gym from May 13 to 16. The initiative will be geared towards students aged 16 to 18 and will aim to vaccinate 500 teens a day.

 

As part of the Student Vaccination Initiative, school districts will assign student vaccine ambassadors who will receive a training from the Nassau County Dept. of Health, and encourage their peers to roll up their sleeve. Students who are vaccinated as part of the initiative will receive 6 hours of community service credit. The Pfizer vaccine, which is currently authorized for those 16+ up will be used.

 

County Executive Curran and Health Commissioner Eisenstein will host a Facebook Town Hall May 12 at 6pm on Facebook on the Student Vaccination Initiative where live questions will be taken.

 

“Nassau County is leading the way in getting residents vaccinated, and I’m proud that we’ve now gotten 73% of our adult population vaccinated. However, in order to soundly defeat this pandemic and return to normal life, we need as many people as possible to roll up their sleeves – including young people. In partnership with young leaders in our communities, we will keep up our incredible vaccination pace so we can get Nassau back to normal,” said Nassau County Executive Laura Curran.
