Police: Central Islip Woman Arrested for Driving Drunk with 7 Year-Old in Vehicle

Suffolk County Police arrested a woman for driving while intoxicated under Leandra’s Law after she was pulled over for a traffic stop in Dix Hills on Monday, May 6 with a 7-year-old child in the car.
 
Santos Lopez-Chacon was driving a 2005 Toyota Highlander eastbound on the Long Island Expressway when a Highway Patrol officer observed the vehicle failing to maintain its lane of travel at approximately 3:46 a.m. The officer initiated a traffic stop. Cocepcion Escobar, 40, of Central Islip, and his 7-year-old daughter were passengers in the Toyota.
 
Lopez-Chacon, 43, of Central Islip, was arrested and charged with Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated with a Child Passenger 15-Years-Old or Younger (Leandra’s Law), Endangering the Welfare of a Child, and Resisting Arrest.
 
The 7-year-old was released to her father at the scene. There were no injuries.
 
Lopez-Chacon was held at the Second Precinct and was arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip.  
 
A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
