Man Arrested for Attempted Murder in Hempstead

Michael Spence, 34, of Hempstead, was arrested for attempted murder.

Hempstead, NY - May 6, 2016 - Third Squad detectives report the details of an arrest for an attempted murder that occurred in Hempstead on Thursday, 05/05/16 at 3:50 P.M.

According to detectives, Hempstead police officers responded to a 911 call for shots fired in front of 64 Martin Ave.  The male victim, 37, at scene stated he was menaced with a gun and a knife by defendant Michael Spence, 34.  The defendant pointed the handgun at the victim pulling the trigger, but the gun failed to fire.  Police officers located the defendant a short time later in the area and placed him under arrest.  The gun and knife were recovered.

No injuries were reported.

Spence is being charged with Attempted Murder 2nd Degree, Criminal Possession Weapon 2nd Degree, two counts of Criminal Possession Weapon 3rd Degree, Criminal Use Firearm 1st Degree, Menacing 2nd Degree and Criminal Mischief 3rd Degree.  He will be arraigned on Friday, 05/06/16 in First District Court, Hempstead.
