NCPD: Hempstead Woman Under Arrest After Driving on Drugs with 6 Month-Old Son in Car

North Merrick, NY - May 4, 2017 - Nassau County Police report the arrest of a Hempstead woman for Driving While Intoxicated which occurred on Wednesday, May 3, 2017 at 9:20 am in North Merrick.
 
According to police, Marion E. Glass, 29, was observed by Bureau of Special Operations officers operating a black 1998 Nissan Sentra westbound on the Southern State Parkway, drifting across lanes, causing other motorists to swerve to avoid a collision.  
 
Officers, assisted by State Troopers, unsuccessfully attempted to stop the vehicle. She exited at exit 23, almost causing a head on collision before being stopped on Meadowbrook Road and Lednam Court. Officers at scene determined that Glass was under the influence of drugs. Her 6 month old son was in the vehicle at the time of the stop. She was placed under arrest at scene without incident. 
 
A further investigation discovered she was in possession of 2 hypodermic needles, 15.5 methadone pills and a tan powder believed to be heroin or methadone.  A family member took custody of the child at the scene.
 
Glass is charged with Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated (Leandra’s Law), two counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 7th degree, Possession of a Hypodermic Instrument, Endangering the Welfare of a Child, Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs and several Vehicle and Traffic Law violations.  She will be arraigned on Thursday, May 4, 2017 at First District Court in Hempstead
 
A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
