Mastic Beach, NY - May 3, 2018 - The William Floyd Colonials girls varsity track team excelled at the New York Relays held over the third week in April at Randall's Island in New York City winning six awards including three first-place trophies. They also took home a third-, fifth- and sixth-place finish to round out the awards.
Achieving success is nothing new to the Colonials, as they showed why they are among the state’s best this past winter in taking home a State Championship in the 4x200 meter relay at the New York State Indoor Track and Field Championships. Head coach John Ryan was ecstatic with his team’s showing at the New York Relays, “We picked up right where we left off this past indoor season,” he said. “Their performance was truly remarkable. For a team to take home three championship plaques from this meet is something that just is not done. I have been very impressed with how hard the girls are working this season.”

This past winter season the girls track team set many records including the all-time New York State meet team record of 1:41:49 (the fastest time ever in Suffolk County). The Colonials have not taken any steps back this spring, as they continue to show why they are among the elite track teams in New York. “They are not resting on their accomplishments from this past winter season and are determined to be right back on the podium at the state meet this June,” added Coach Ryan.
