Suozzi Announces $8 Million Investment for Long Island Sound in Federal Funding Bill Agreement
Long Island, NY - May 2, 2017 - Today, Congressman Tom Suozzi (D – Long Island, Queens) announced that the Long Island Sound program will receive $8 million as part of the Omnibus Appropriations bill, which is slated to pass Congress sometime this week. This figure is double what was allocated for the Long Island Sound program last year.
“This is a great victory for not only the Long Island Sound, but for everyone in our district who cares deeply about its future wellbeing. This funding will help cut down on nitrogen entering the Sound from sewage treatment plants while also taking on low oxygen and nitrogen levels that have an adverse effect on the Sound’s diverse ecosystem. I look forward to continuing my work as Co-Chair of the Long Island Sound Caucus to preserve the Sound’s beauty,” said Congressman Suozzi.
Congressman Suozzi has cosponsored H.R. 1674, the Long Island Sound Restoration and Stewardship Act. He serves as Co-Chair of the bipartisan Long Island Sound Caucus along with Rep. Lee Zeldin (R-NY) and Rep. Rosa DeLauro (D-CT). He is also a member of the Climate Solutions Caucus.
