NCPD: New Hyde Park Woman Drove Drunk with Children, Ages 2 and 6, in Vehicle

Levittown, NY - May 2, 2017 - The Nassau County Police report an arrest for Driving While Intoxicated which occurred on Monday, May 1, 2017 at 11:50 pm in Jericho.
 
According to police, Nassau County Highway Patrol observed a white BMW travelling westbound on the Long Island Expressway failing to maintain the lane and almost striking the center median. A vehicle stop was conducted in the vicinity of exit 40. 
 
The operator of the vehicle, Dayna J. Gambino, 23, of New Hyde Park was determined to be under the influence of alcohol.  She was placed under arrest at the scene without incident. The defendant’s daughters, ages 2 and 6, were passengers in the vehicle.  No injuries were reported. The children were left in the custody of a family member.
 
Gambino is charged with two counts of Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated (Leandra’s Law), two counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child, Driving While Intoxicated, Driving While Intoxicated (BAC .08%) and several Vehicle and Traffic Law infractions.  She will be arraigned on Tuesday, May 2, 2017 at First District Court in Hempstead.
 
A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
