SPCA: Hauppauge Woman Charged with Hoarding Dogs in Deplorable Conditions

Suffolk County SPCA Detectives charged Helen Mallazzo, 65, of Hauppauge with animal cruelty on Tuesday,  April 30th, 2019.  
 
A total of 10 dogs including 5 puppies were removed from unsanitary, deplorable conditions by the Suffolk County SPCA. The animals were transported by the Islip Town Shelter. One, a three week old puppy, was rushed to an emergency hospital in critical condition. The house was deemed uninhabitable and condemned by Islandia Village Fire Marshal.
 
In 2015 Helen Mallazzo was charged with animal cruelty by the Suffolk County SPCA for neglecting her emaciated horses. She was convicted and is currently on the Suffolk County Animal Abuse Registry. Being in possession of animals is a probation violation. Helen Mallazzo's sentence did not include probation. 
   
Mallazzo is due to appear in First District Court in Islip on June 24th, 2019
