Cops: Freeport Man Arrested After Attempting to Assault Woman at Knifepoint

The Special Victims Squad reports the arrest of a Freeport man for an incident that occurred on Wednesday, April 24, 2019 at 11:30 a.m. in Freeport.
 
According to detectives, a female victim, 44, was walking alone in the rear of 260 South Main Street when she was approached from behind by a male suspect. The suspect demanded she remove her clothing. A brief struggle ensued and the suspect pulled a knife on the victim and pressed it against her rear hip. 
 
As the struggle continued the suspect pressed the knife against the victim’s neck and demanded that she take her pants off. The suspect then exposed himself to the victim and as she screamed the suspect fled on foot. A subsequent investigation led to the arrest of Umari Taylor, 20.
 
The defendant, Umari Taylor has been charged with Attempted Criminal Sexual Act 1st Degree. He will be arraigned on Tuesday, April 30, 2019 at First District Court, 99 Main Street in Hempstead.
 
A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
