Two Copper Wire Thieves in Custody After Leading NCPD on High-Speed Chase, Cops Say
Inwood, NY - May 1, 2017 - Fourth Squad detectives report the details of two arrests for grand larceny that occurred in Inwood on Sunday, 04/30/17 at 8:05 P.M.
According to detectives, Community Oriented Police Enforcement officers, while on patrol, observed Timothy Robinson, 37, Andrew Strowder, 57, both of Far Rockaway, and another (not yet apprehended) in the rear of 2298 Johnson Rd. in a fenced off premise used for storage. The defendants were taking round spools of copper wire valued in excess of $3,000 and loading it into a van. As the officers attempted to investigate, the defendants fled in the van at a high rate of speed, narrowly missing the officers’ vehicle.
In an effort to further evade police officers, the defendants drove through a chain link fence and row of hedges in the vicinity of 605 Rockaway Tpke., where the van came to a stop after getting stuck in the fence. Defendant Robinson exited the van and fled on foot but was apprehended by an officer in the vicinity of 343 Rockaway Tpke.
Robinson resisted arrest and attempted to punch the officer in the face. Strowder exited the vehicle and was arrested without incident.
No injuries were reported.
Both defendants are each being charged with Grand Larceny 3rd Degree, Unauthorized Use of a Vehicle 3rd Degree and Criminal Trespass 3rd Degree. Robinson is additionally being charged with Criminal Mischief 2nd Degree, Reckless Driving, Resisting Arrest and Unlicensed Operator. Both defendants will be arraigned on Monday, 05/01/17 in First District Court, Hempstead.
