SCPD Crime Alert: Latest Home Burglaries Involve Garage Remote

Written by Long Island News & PR  |  02. May 2016

Hauppauge, NY - April 29, 2016 - Suffolk Police are investigating two residential burglaries in Hauppauge that occurred after a person or people used garage remotes found in unlocked vehicles; Police are urging residents to take safety precautions.

On two occasions, a man entered unlocked vehicles parked in the driveways of residences on Dale Court and Janet Court, in Hauppauge earlier this month. Once inside the unlocked vehicles, the suspect used remote garage door openers to gain entry into the garage and then entered the homes through a secondary door.  In each instance, the residents were in the home, sleeping upstairs.

The Suffolk County Police Department would like to remind all residents to lock their vehicles and secure remote controls and keep them out of sight.  If there are secondary entrances into homes through the garage, residents should lock those doors to deter entry.

If members of the community observe a suspicious person, they are asked to call 631-852-COPS or 911.
