Manhattan, NY - May 1, 2014 - Students enrolled in the Career & Technical Education (CTE) program at William Floyd High School had the opportunity to compete at the annual Virtual Enterprises International Trade Show held last month at the 69th Regiment Armory in New York City. Virtual Enterprise is the business component of William Floyd’s CTE program, which gives students the opportunity to develop the business end of the trade they are pursuing. Students representing more than 150 Virtual Enterprise firms from around the world attended to show their wares and vie for top recognition.

William Floyd student firms that competed in the Trade Show included CoverCell and Forever Fit (Business Academy), which showcased their customized cell phone cases and sold fitness packages, respectively; Eclectic Essentials (Cosmetology Academy), which applied hair extensions to attendees; and Stix (Culinary Academy), which made a splash with their delicious cake pops.

William Floyd students finished with a strong showing as CoverCell, Forever Fit and Stix made it to the second round finals in the competition for the Best Catalog. Stix also made it to the second round for the Best Web Page competition. Eclectic Essentials made it to the semifinals for Basic Web Design and Covercell received an Honorable Mention for Basic Web Design.

“All of the students should be commended for their hard work and dedication to the program,” said Karen Poidomani, Business teacher, William Floyd High School. “This was a great learning experience for these future entrepreneurs as they continue to build the business acumen necessary to run a successful enterprise.”
