Moriches, NY - April 29th, 2015 - Students at Moriches Elementary School recently participated in the American Heart Association (AHA) “Hoops for Heart” fundraiser, in which they raised $2,305 throughout the month of March to benefit AHA research and efforts to reduce death caused by heart disease and stroke.

Each year, Moriches Elementary School participates in “Hoops for Heart” or “Jump Rope for Heart” as a way to raise awareness and funds to fight heart disease, help students learn the value of community service, develop heart-healthy habits and highlight the importance of physical activity.

“Students enjoy participating in Hoops for Heart because it is fun as well as informative,” said Tia Fuoco, a physical education teacher at Moriches Elementary School. “We always encourage our students to make healthy choices, be physically active and eat a nutritious diet.”
