NCPD: Lynbrook Man Charged in Connection with Fatal Hit-and-Run Incident

The Homicide Squad reports the arrest of a Lynbrook man for Leaving the Scene of a Fatal Auto Accident that occurred in Lynbrook.
 
According to detectives, a male victim was crossing Merrick Road near Blossom Heath Avenue, when he was struck by a gray Nissan. The vehicle left scene westbound on Merrick Road without stopping. A description was given to responding officers by witnesses. A short time later officer’s located the vehicle at the In N Out Convenience Store, located at 300 Mill Road in Hewlett. After an investigation, the driver, defendant Harley Dix, 48, was placed under arrest. The victim was transported to an area hospital where he was pronounced deceased by a staff physician. The identity of the victim is being withheld pending family notification.
 
The defendant Harley Dix has been charged with Leaving the Scene of an Accident with a Death. He was arraigned at First District Court, 99 Main Street in Hempstead.
 
A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
