Exclusive: Purple Rain's Morris Day and Academy Award-Winner Son of Saul's Laszlo Nemes Interviewed on Tom Needham's The Sounds of Film
Stony Brook, NY - April 27, 2016 - Purple Rain's Morris Day and Academy Award-Winner Son of Saul's Laszlo Nemes will be interviewed this Thursday, April 28th at 6 P.M. on WUSB on Tom Needham's The Sounds of Film.
Morris Day will be Tom Needham's special guest this week on the Sounds of Film. He will be discussing his relationship with Prince, the music of the Time, and his acting career. Day had a long history with Prince that goes all way back to high school. During that period, he performed in a band with Prince and Andre Cymone called Grand Central. After Prince signed his solo record contract, Prince hand-picked Morris Day to be the leader of a new band he wanted to record called the Time. The group went on to produce many classic funk albums including The Time, What Time Is It?, Ice Cream Castles, and Pandemonium. Morris Day and the Time also achieved international fame when they were featured prominently in Prince's Purple Rain, which is currently playing again in theaters. Many critics and fans praised Morris Day's comic acting and musical performances in the film. This lead to many more acting roles for Morris, as well as opportunities to record solo albums.
Morris Day said, "That first Time album was really just Prince and me in the studio together. I recorded the drums and vocals, and Prince played everything else. I never would have guessed back then the incredible outpouring of respect that he is receiving right now, or that Purple Rain would be back in theaters."
Throughout the years, though, he has always returned to his hugely popular group the Time to perform his hits for fans around the world. New York fans can check out Morris Day and the Time's performance along with Kool and the Gang this Saturday, April 30th at the NYCB Theatre at Westbury.
Also featured on the Sounds of Film is writer/director of Son of Saul, Laszlo Nemes. The Hungarian film is set in the Auschwitz concentration camp during World War 2, and focuses on one Sonderkommando's quest to give his alleged son a proper burial under intense horrid conditions. The controversial Holocaust film is one of the most honored films of 2015. Son of Saul won the Grand Prix at the Cannes Film Festival, Best Foreign Film at the Golden Globe Awards, and the Academy Award for Best Foreign Film at the 88th Academy Awards. Son of Saul is currently available on Sony Pictures Classics' DVDs and Blu-rays.
