Assemblyman Ra Partners with the American Red Cross to Teach Fourth Graders how to Prepare for Natural Disasters
New Hyde Park, NY - April 26, 2018 - Assemblyman Ed Ra (R-Franklin Square) recently partnered with the American Red Cross to bring the Pillowcase Project to the fourth grade students of Notre Dame School in New Hyde Park on Tuesday, April 10. The Pillowcase Project is an educational program which aims to educate and help children understand the science behind hazards, empower them to take action by preparing for emergencies beforehand, and teach them to share what they have learned with family, friends and other members of their communities. As National Hurricane Preparedness week approaches, this particular presentation focused on the natural disaster of hurricanes, as they are cause for concern for Long Island residents.
“After the devastating effects of Superstorm Sandy, I feel it is so important we all, even our children, are prepared should it ever happen again,” said Ra. “We may not have control over the weather or other disasters, but we do have control over preparing for them. While parents and guardians are the ones who should be taking the reins in an emergency, it is crucial for our children to learn how to stay calm and what they can do to help if they are able to.”
“The fourth graders at Notre Dame school were delighted to have Assemblyman Ed Ra visit them to participate in the Pillowcase Presentation presented by the American Red Cross. The presentation helped the students learn about disaster preparedness and how to keep themselves and their family safe in case of an emergency,” said Notre Dame School’s fourth grade teachers.
