Leandra's Law Arrest in Brentwood
Brentwood, NY - April 25, 2014 - On 04/24/14, at approximately 8:14 p.m., a trooper from the State Police Brentwood Barracks observed a Nissan Pathfinder swerving southbound on the Sunken Meadow Parkway just north of the Northern State Parkway. After a traffic stop was initiated, the trooper interviewed the vehicle operator, Kerri Smith, age 39, of Ronkonkoma, NY. The trooper detected the odor of an alcoholic beverage. Mrs. Smith failed sobriety tests and was subsequently arrested for DWI. The vehicle was also occupied by a 2 year old boy.
Mrs. Smith was charged with Aggravated DWI (DWI with child under the age of 16 in the vehicle, Class E Felony), DWAI combined Drugs/Alcohol, Endangering the Welfare of a Child (A Misd.), and Aggravated Unlicensed Operation 2nd. Mrs. Smith was held for arraignment in Suffolk County First District Court.
