Huntington, NY - April 24, 2017 - A Huntington man who inappropriately touched a young girl in the Huntington Library will be sentenced today, Monday (4/24) in Riverhead, Suffolk County District Attorney Thomas Spota said.

State Supreme Court Justice Mark Cohen made a sentencing promise last month of three years in prison when Christopher Elgut, 29, pleaded guilty to  felony and misdemeanor sex abuse charges, one count of endangering the welfare of a child and unlawful possession of marijuana.

On January 3, 2016 Elgut approached the victim as she stood behind her mother at a counter. Elgut moved the juvenile behind nearby book carts where he inappropriately touched her.

The defendant fled but was arrested by Second Precinct patrol officers 20 minutes after the incident. The victim’s mother has provided the court with a written victim’s impact statement which will be read aloud at sentencing by an Assistant District Attorney.

Justice Cohen (fourth floor of courthouse) will call the court calendar today at 9:30 am.
