Suffolk County, NY - April 22, 2016 - On April 21, 2016 promoting the Suffolk County Police Department’s ongoing effort to enhance community relations by engaging the Hispanic Community, Suffolk County Police Department Deputy Police Commissioner Risco Mention Lewis, Second Precinct Commanding Officer Inspector Christopher Hatton, Second Precinct Executive Officer Deputy Inspector Bill Read, Community Liaison Officer Claudia Delgado and School Resource Officer Drew Fiorillo held another Vamos a Hablar / Let’s Talk event in partnership with the South Huntington School District at the South Huntington School District’s Parent University event.

Presenting in both English and Spanish, they discussed many topics, some of which included;

• How the Suffolk County Police Department officers are not immigration officers.  Everyone who contacts the police will be treated equally and fairly regardless of their citizenship status
• How no person should ever feel threatened or be afraid to report an incident to the police due to their immigration status.  Even if you are undocumented, you are entitled to and will receive all police services, you will not be deported for reporting crimes, problems, or any concerns you might have
• The importance of always carrying proper ID, the consequences of false impersonation
• What everyone should do when stopped by the police
• Landlord Tenant Laws
• Language Access Plan (LAP)
