Motorcyclist Killed in Holtsville Crash After Being Hit & Dragged by Truck

Holtsville, NY - April 22nd, 2015 - Suffolk County Police Sixth Squad detectives are investigating a crash that occurred last night and killed a motorcyclist in Holtsville.

A man was driving a tractor-trailer westbound on Long Island Avenue in Holtsville at approximately 8:05 p.m. on April 21. The driver was attempting to turn right into Bissett Nursery when a 1976 BMW motorcycle traveling westbound struck the back of the trailer.

The motorcyclist, Leonard Mastro, 53, of Holtsville, was ejected and his bike was dragged under the truck and caught on fire.

Mastro was transported to Stony Brook University Hospital by ambulance where he died this morning.

The driver of the tractor-trailer, Rhondle Carlton Day Jr., of North Carolina, was not injured.
