Nassau County & Suffolk County Executives Join Forces to Call for Volunteer Firefighters

Long Island, NY - April 23, 2015 - As part of a New York statewide effort to increase volunteer firefighter numbers, Long Island’s County Executives, fire departments and fire officials will clang the bell for new recruits at a news conference on Thursday, April 23rd at 11:00 A.M. at the Nassau County Firefighters Museum & Education Center, on Museum Row in Garden City.

Firemen’s Association of the State of New York (FASNY) President Robert McConville, Nassau County Executive Ed Mangano, Suffolk County Executive Steven Bellone, local fire officials, and volunteer firefighters will speak about Long Island recruitment open houses being held during RecruitNY weekend, Saturday and Sunday, April 25th and April 26th.

During RecruitNY weekend, volunteer fire departments across Long Island and the state will open their doors to their community to educate the public about what it takes to become a volunteer firefighter.

WHAT: Fire officials announce fifth annual RecruitNY program; provide latest local open house schedule and display fire engines and apparatus. County Executives Bellone and Mangano will proclaim April 25-26 as Official “RecruitNY Weekend” in their respective counties.

Established in 2011, RecruitNY is a joint undertaking by the Firemen’s Association of the State of New York (FASNY), the New York State Association of Fire Chiefs (NYSAFC), Association of Fire Districts of New York State, Volunteer Fire Police Association of the State of New York, and County Fire Coordinators Association of the State of New York.
