“The Mickey Rooney Story” Musical Theatre Performances at WMHO's Educational & Cultural Center

Stony Brook, NY - April 18, 2016 - If you’re looking for live musical theatre right in your own back yard Stony Brook Village is the place to be.  “The Mickey Rooney Story,” opening May 4 at WMHO’s Educational & Cultural Center, will not only be entertaining but compelling as it touches on the very dramatic life and career of this iconic Hollywood star.
 
For nearly nine decades Rooney was a dynamo of talent who displayed a natural gift for acting, singing, dancing, comedy, drama and more in over 300 films throughout his lifetime. He was the top box office attraction from 1939 to 1941. Laurence Olivier once said he considered Rooney "the best there has ever been."  One of his best-known roles was his portrayal of hoodlum Whitey Marsh in the Academy Award winning Boys Town in 1938 with Spencer Tracy. Besides his celebrated movie career, Rooney successfully starred in vaudeville, radio, television and on Broadway.  The musical theatre tribute performances by St. George Productions are set in 1963 with Daniel Garcia portraying Mickey Rooney, Madeline Shaffer as Betsy Palmer Sarah Quinn as Penny.  A High Tea Luncheon catered by Crazy Beans Restaurant is also included.
 
Performances take place Wed., Thurs. Fri. & Sat., 11:30 am, Sun., 12:30 pm. Show dates are May 4, 5, 8, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, 25, 26; June 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12. Advance reservations are required.  General admission is $50 pp; seniors 60 & over is $48 pp and groups of 20 or more is $45/pp.
